This presentation will demonstrate the process of implementing an open test bank project in Psychology and Counseling courses, examine our data, and provide suggestions for others interested in starting similar projects. Our project used student-generated assessments in authentic classroom use, and then evaluated their impact using quantitative and qualitative measures before making them available to the wider open educational community as ancillary materials for the open textbook being used. We will present comparison data for test and course grades for students that used traditionally-created test questions in their course versus the students who created questions throughout the semester and then were assessed using those test questions. We will also present the results of our survey and focus group data to provide student perceptions of open test bank creation and its impact on their learning. Ultimately, this data will provide suggestions for how future instructors can utilize similar practices to collaboratively create effective assessment materials with students. The presentation will conclude with recommendations for others looking to embark on an open test bank project at their institution.
